First Lieutenant Harvey Curtiss “Barney” Barnum, Jr.
Medal of Honor Presented on February 27, 1967
First Lieutenant Barney Barnum was born and raised in Cheshire and graduated from Cheshire High School. Following his 1962 college graduation, he was commissioned a Marine Corps Reserve Second Lieutenant. In July 1964, he accepted appointment to the regular Marine Corps and was promoted to First Lieutenant. Barney Barnum was promoted to Colonel in February 1984, and retired from the Marine Corps in 1989, after more than 27 years of service.
